- Ensure you follow ethical guidelines to protect the identity of the child, childcare setting, and anybody else involved. Names, addresses, or information that might identify the children in your observations must not be recorded in your observations for assessment. The child may be referred to as “Target child, Child 1, Child X”.
- To ensure non-bias the Target Child should not be a relation.
- It is vital that you examine all aspects of the chosen child’s learning and development over an extended period of time.
- Learning Stories are the only observations that use pictures. Separate written permission must be given by the parents and the setting to take photographs and they must be informed what you are using them for. Children’s faces must not be seen in any photographs taken.
- Event samples can only be used if there is an actual event to sample i.e. ‘a behavior problem.
