Assignment Brief:
The project you are working on consists of a new Steel Structural Framed 350m2 Single Storey Office Building on a Greenfield Site. The building has obtained Planning Permission, a Fire Safety Certificate, and Disability Access Certificate.
You are the Design Team Leader and you are to assume the responsibility of Design Certifier and Assigned Certifier.
The other disciplines included in the Project include a Civil & Structural Engineer (C&S) and a Mechanical and Electrical Engineer (M&E). An outline Building The specification is included in Appendix A.
You are to present to your client outlining your intended ‘BCAR Compliance Process and Strategy’. The presentation will be 5 minutes. The PowerPoint must also be uploaded to moodle on the day and a hard copy given to the lecturer on the day also 3 slides per page with a front cover including student number.
1. Explain to your client – “What is ‘BCAR” and give a brief overview of the
process from “Commencement” to “Completion”. This should establish the main duties and responsibilities of each person involved.
2. You must explain the Commencement Notice Submission Process in detail
including advising on all of the Attendant Forms and Statutory information that
must be compiled and submitted along with the Commencement Notice. You are to use a long-form of Commencement Notice with additional Documentation. You should also expand on any additional or supplementary information you intend to submit to the BCMS.
3 You must explain the Certificate of Compliance on Completion (COC) Process in detail including advising on all of the Attendant Forms and Statutory information that must be compiled and submitted. You should also expand on any additional or supplementary information you intend to submit to the BCMS.
4. Assuming the role as an Architect and the Assigned Certifier, you are to produce a basic Outline Preliminary Inspection Plan (PIP) relating to Architectural Elements. You can assume that you would be appending the C&S’s &M&E’s Plans to your Inspection Plan to form an overall PIP, however, this is not required for this submission.
You should decide on what all Inspections you think are required based on
carrying out a Risk Assessment as per the Code of Practice -however, you do not need to submit any such Risk Assessment.
