You Are The Operations Floor Manager For An Industrial Manufacturing Company: Operations Management Assignment, DCU, Ireland

You are the operations floor manager for an industrial manufacturing company. Your company has recently been acquired by a larger multinational manufacturing company to facilitate vertical integration in its supply chain. The due diligence exercise carried out prior to the acquisition confirmed your organization as an excellent strategic acquisition as it supplies a critical safety component which they include in their security implementations for large multinational corporate clients.

However, the due diligence audit found that although the quality of the
component produced by your organization is excellent it also found that there is no one single responsibility for the overall operations in your organization. You have been identified (along with three other candidates (1 local and two external) as a possible candidate for promotion to Operations Manager with full responsibility for the operations area of your organization.

The parent company has asked each candidate to submit an operations strategy for the organization which identifies five key areas for improvement. The strategy of the paper should be limited to 3,000 words and should cover the 5 operations decisions you consider most important for your organization to address, along with your reason(s) for each choice.

The parent organization has had years of experience with OM so they are
looking for someone who can display flair and insight as to how the operations department should be managed and what you consider to be the five most immediate/important areas for improvement. Informally you have heard that ‘OM 101’ type responses (i.e., stock answers from a text) will be viewed very poorly, therefore, your report needs to display your capacity for novel ideas/solutions. It is also important to include references to at least three current academic research articles in support of your recommendations.
