Assignment Brief
Note: This assignment is the latest version published on 20th June 2024. If you have commenced with an older version of this assignment, you are permitted to continue, but we kindly ask that you indicate this to your tutor when submitting your work. Your supervisor at the public garden would now like you to create a report investigating the current requirements for the registration of new plant varieties. This report will help the garden to register any new plant varieties that are bred in their nursery.
Task 1
Undertake research on the current regulations regarding responsible plant sourcing, propagation, and distribution. You can do this by searching for information online about relevant regulatory authorities and organisations and/or contacting local horticulture organisations for information.
- Keep a notebook of your research findings, including details of any organisations that you contact.
- Your notebook should be well-organised with appropriate headings and/or tables, as you will need this information for your work in Task 2.
- Your notebook should be in a digital format using software of your choosing (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, an online blog, etc.).
- You will need to be able to add photographs, tables, and images to your notebook.

Task 2
Write an investigative report of your research findings (Around 1000 words. Word count excludes contents page, headings, images/figures, tables, and references). The report should include the following:
- A contents page.
- An evaluation of your research findings, considering the implications that the regulations have for plant breeders and nurseries in terms of plant sourcing, propagation, and distribution.
- An outline and critical evaluation of the current systems and procedures involved in registering new plant varieties.
- An analysis of the importance of using correct international binomial nomenclature systems as part of this process.
