University | Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) |
Subject | Microprocessor Code |
This lab exercise is designed to help familiarise you with the Raspberry Pi Pico development environment by implementing a basic algorithm to calculate the value for PI using some C code and the Pi Pico SDK. It also helps to highlight some of the limitations associated with the representation of single and double-precision floating-point numbers. The code can be run on the Raspberry Pi Pico hardware platform with some minor adjustments to initialize the UART correctly.
- The algorithm to be implemented is the Walks product which Is defined by the following formula:
- When the formula Is expanded, it results In the following Infinite series, which can be used to calculate an approximate value for Pl. The more terms In the series are calculated, the more accurate the approximate solution becomes.
- After completing this lab, you should have successfully created and compiled code to calculate an approximate value for PI and run it on the Wokwi online simulator to prove that it works as expected.
