The purpose of this report is to inform the delegates of St Florian & St Raphael about Health and Safety Legislation in Ireland and how it applies to the National Ambulance and County Fire Services. During this presentation, we will discuss the benefits of health and safety legislation in ensuring health and safety at work for both employers and employees and how having this legislation can significantly reduce accidents in the workplace.

The role of the Health and Safety Authority in Ireland and we will reference the Safety, Health, and Welfare at Work Act, 2005. We will discuss accountability and the role of employers in creating and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. The role of employees and their duties that are set out under the Act. How providing appropriate protective clothing and equipment to employees and good housekeeping can contribute to this.

I will outline elements of a safety statement and the functions of a safety statement. We will talk about risk assessment and safeguarding the safety, health, and welfare of your employees at work. The goal is that you have enough information to begin to set up your own Health and Safety Authority and legislation that can significantly reduce workplace accidents in St Florian & St Raphael within your National Ambulance and County Fire Services.

Draft legislation is open for consultation in relation to new Health and Safety requirements to be introduced for the Caribbean Islands of St Florian & St Raphael. These islands previously had no legislation to protect their citizens but due to the rising incident rate of accidents in the workplace, the governor of St Florian & St Raphael has led a national campaign to introduce Health and Safety legislation.

A recent delegate visit of St Florian & St Raphael Emergency Services Personnel has come to Ireland. While on the visit they have requested that a member of our emergency services host a discussion and give them an overview of how the Health and Safety legislation system works in this country and of the benefits of legislation in managing Health and Safety in the workplace.
