Abstract

The mitochondria act as an active individualistic organelle. Mitochondria are present in every cell within the organism. The mitochondria are membrane-bound organelles that are responsible for regulating cell activity and also are involved in meeting cell energy requirements. Availability of nutrients functions in regulating mitochondrial metabolites, whereas considerable amounts of macronutrients have the potential to result in elevated oxidation. Therefore, oxidative stress can give rise to dysfunctional mitochondria.

Micronutrients are important constituents for mitochondrial activity and processes. Micronutrients are important cofactors for acting as antioxidants and obtaining a role in basal metabolism.

Inadequate micronutrient and macronutrient intake can lead to dysfunctional mitochondria by impairment to energy supplying one carbon metabolisms. Therefore, the importance of this research will review the significance of micronutrients and macronutrients on the functioning mitochondria.

The consequences of inadequate consumption that result in mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress are going to be investigated and reviewed.
