Introduction

The Dev Ops methodology is a broad term, which can encompass several areas all very relevant to the practice of software development and the management of an IT Infrastructure. Such areas include:-

-Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

-Continuous Integration.

-Automated Testing.

-Continuous Delivery and Continuous Deployment.

-release management.

-App Performance Monitoring.

-Load Balancing, Elasticity, and Auto-Scaling.

-Fast feedback loops and Continuous Improvement.

However, all of these areas must be viewed from within real-life situations. For example, the specific industries they are supporting (Healthcare, Financial Services, Automotive, Aviation), the specific environments they are operating in (Public/Private/Hybrid Cloud Infrastructures; Classical server Environment/Virtualized Environments/Micro-services/Serverless Computing; Agile/Lean/Kanban; Small/Medium/LargeSize Enterprises; etc), and the prevailing economic conditions. Each of these will have a bearing on how the DevOps Transformationprocessis:

1.Designed.

2.Implemented.

3.Adhered to.

4.Evolved.

In this assignment, you are requested to choose at least one of the areas (A) at the top of the introduction (there is an obvious overlap so you may cover more than one but at most two), choose a particular industry (B) (this could be specific or broad), research and collate the latest knowledge on the application of (A) within (B). You should identify the key issues, the main challenges, and anything else you think is relevant to the discussion. Of particular interest to your readers will be what makes your choice of industry (B) different from others in terms of your area (A).

Some Details:

Your academic research paper must:

1) Bestructured as a traditional academic paper.

2) Refer to (and reference) at least 5conference and/or journal articles of your choice. This will probably involve you reading many more than 5articles. A bibliography, where you can list additional material that is tangentially relevant but not referenced can be included.

3) Summarise these articles as a cohesive whole, thus producing a state of art in this area.

4) Present some personal insight into the topic.

5) Be within 10% of the target number of words

Administration Notes and Deliverables-

The submissions will go through Urkundto to assist you in the referencing process.

-The academic research paper should be submitted via moodle before the due date indicated at the beginning of this document.

-Your submission must be written in your own words and conform to Harvard referencing standard.

-Your submission must be uploaded in source document format (no PDFs).

-An appropriate front cover page should be provided detailing pertinent information such as student full name, student ID, module title, CA2, Report title, word count, etc.

-You may use the appendix for non-critical (optional to the reader) information that will not add to the word count -but use it carefully.

-You may be required to present your technical report as part of the assessment.
