‘Smith’s Cash and Carry’ is a family-run business established in the1990’s situated in Athlone Co. Westmeath. The business is owned and operated by the Smith family who in turn has a staff of 10 local people who have been with the company from the beginning.
The business began small but now the Smiths have a number of large customers who have signed contracts to deal with them exclusively for all their cash and carry needs. This means the business will need to expand and therefore take on new staff.
As part of this staffing restructure, there will be a need for two assistant managers. The Smiths have hired two individuals to fill these roles, One from within the company and one external candidate.
Tom was an active part of the growing business from the beginning and helped run the business on a day-to-day basis. As time passed, the business grew and slowly gathered traction in the local area, gaining more customers and as it did, the size of the premises grew, its product offering expanded, and with this, the need for more staff, including specialized staff grew.
For all intents and purposes, Tom was managing the business, the rotas, payroll, and inventory, albeit without the title of manager. He helped grow the business and was very well-liked and trusted in the community.
