Objective:

This assignment aims to enhance students’ understanding of simulation methodologies within the context of supply chain management. Through a detailed examination of the relevant literature, students will explore the application of simulation techniques in the supply chains. Additionally, by outlining the necessary steps for developing a simulation model, students will examine how to effectively analyse complex supply chain scenarios. Finally, the assignment encourages thinking through the creation of hypothetical “what-if” scenarios, enabling students to assess the impact of different variables on supply chain performance.

Instructions:

Part 1: Literature Review on Supply Chain Simulation (Max 500 words)

Find a peer-reviewed journal article that focuses on simulation in supply chain management.
Look for publications in journals. You can use https://scholar.google.com/ or any other online
library for scholarly literature. Based on the paper:

1. 1. Develop a report that includes a full reference to the paper, a description of the
problem addressed, the simulation model, and key findings of the paper. Make sure
that the report is cited properly.

2. Outline the steps involved in applying the simulation for the problem discussed in the
paper and explain how it covers the following steps

• Problem definition
• Model formulation
• Data collection
• Model implementation
• Validation and verification of the simulation model
• Experimentation and analysis of results
• Sensitivity analysis and interpretation of outcomes

Include relevant figures and tables to illustrate your points, such as flowcharts of the simulation process, data collection methods, or examples of experiments designed.

Part 2: If-Scenario Analysis for a Hypothetical Supply Chain Model (Max 500 words)

Instructions:

Develop a detailed description of a hypothetical supply chain model, including key components such as suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. Formulate at least three different “what-if” scenarios that could impact the supply chain. For example: What if there is a sudden increase in demand? What if a key supplier experiences a disruption? What if transportation costs increase significantly?

For each scenario, analyse the potential effects on the supply chain’s performance metrics (e.g., lead time, cost, customer satisfaction). Discuss the implications of each scenario on overall supply chain strategy and decision-making.

Incorporate relevant figures, tables, etc. to support your analysis, such as graphs showing changes in performance metrics under different scenarios.
