Assignment 4 – Reflection on Written Report & Professional Practice

Guidelines:

The apprentice will prepare a reflection report (1,250 – 1,500 words) in which the apprentice will review and reflect on knowledge, skills, and competencies gained during the workplace element of the apprenticeship. This should include working as part of a professional team, dealing with feedback and constructive criticism, coping with stress, and managing both the academic and work-based elements of the apprenticeship programme.

The reflection provided by the apprentice should be based on his/her workplace in general, with specific reference to the real-world sale detailed in the written report, where appropriate.

Marking Scheme:

Criteria Details Marks
Comprehensive reflection displays an in-depth understanding of the key skills and personal attributes required within the Property Services sector. This may include:

  • Reflection on the personal skills and qualities gained and developed across the duration of the programme
  • Reflection on how those skills were developed
  • Reflection on the apprentice’s personal/preferred communication styles

Reflection includes reference to the apprentice’s membership of a work-based team. This may include:

  • Reflection on the dynamics at play within work-based teams
  • Identification of the main apprentice team role(s) and the roles played by others in the course of team participation
  • Reflection on the management of conflict in teams
  • Review and evaluation of the effectiveness of the team and the apprentice’s performance within the team

Reflection displays an understanding of the value of feedback within the workplace. This may include:

  • Reflection on the role of feedback within performance management, e.g., time management within M&C Property in Galway office
  • Reflection on the value of providing and receiving constructive criticism, including evaluating feedback received from mentor and teacher
  • Revision of preferred working styles in response to feedback received

Reflection displays a keen awareness of workplace stress. This may include:

  • Reflection on the benefits, challenges, and symptoms of stress, balancing work with this course and everyday life
  • Reflection on the major sources of pressure within the apprentice’s workplace and what may be done within the workplace to minimise the stress risk factors – e.g., organised and set study time plan aside for college work, time blocking
  • Reflection on the challenge of managing the competing demands of the academic and work-based aspects of the programme and strategies utilised by the apprentice to help deal with it – e.g., balancing AGMs with work and submitting college assignments on time
