The need for social care students to use reflection to learn about and develop their practice is an essential feature of practice placement. The aim of this assignment is to start the process of reflective thinking and writing on your first placement due to commence in April 2024. Placement preparation focuses on our new framework of practice, Standards of Proficiency for Social Care Workers 2017 (The standards of proficiency detail the skills and abilities that students must possess at the end of our programme) and Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics for Social Care Workers.
To support you in your preparation for placement this assignment will provide an opportunity for you to reflect on the challenges and opportunities you may encounter on placement refencing the Standards of Proficiency. The second part of the assignment will help you focus on importance of self-care and devising a self-care plan
A) Provide a reflective account of the challenges and opportunities you may encounter on placement and how you might overcome these challenges using the standards of Proficiency as your guide

B) Devise a self-care plan that will support you in your placement. The plan will reflect the activities that you enjoy and how these activities will help you with the challenges you will experience. 500 words

Assignment Guidance
This assignment requires you to spend time thinking about your learning objectives (what you want to learn and achieve on placement) and the proficiencies you must achieve on your placement.
In your reflection look at the 5 domains and the standards of proficiency, identify proficiencies you may have difficult with and proficiencies you are confident about, give examples or explain reasons why some may be challenging.
Consider your self-confidence, write about the support i.e. supervision or self-care you will draw on to help you with the challenges.
