John has had a stroke, he has been left with paralysis on his right side. He is only 46 and has worked in the building trade. His lifestyle was not very healthy as he got a very little exercise, but he was a hard worker who then went to the bar for a few drinks before going home to have his dinner, prepared for him by his mam.
He is in rehabilitation in a nursing home as he needs help with personal care, dressing, and adapting to his condition. He is also in the rehabilitative center where he is being taught confidence building, disability management, and independent living skills including basic cookery.
His goal is to live independently, but he does not have the option of moving back home as his mam has passed away since he got sick. His home place is not accessible and is in a rather isolated setting with poor access to shops and services.
