Assessing the module:

1) Three 500 word abstracts of 3 papers you have read – across three different themes in the module. This is to encourage you to be as succinct and clear as you can be about describing what a paper is about. In framing it you need to have this question in mind: Will the reader of this abstract have a good idea of the main focus of the paper when they finish reading it. So you should include in your abstract:

a) The focus of the paper – what is the area is it looking to answer.
b) The research method used
c) The main findings that emerged.

2) Your essay will be a more in-depth exploration of some questions you have yourself on a topic/theme that has interested you over the module. It is to be 3500 words. It is difficult to write a shorter essay than a longer one so you have to be very focused on what the essay is about. Don’t go too broad – take a theme that you know /have come across several readings that were of interest to you that you can synopsize. Good essays are clear, well structured, and show evidence of critical/reflective engagement with the topic. In the structure of your essay, you will have the following.

• Table of contents with section headings numbers and page numbers
• Introduction which outlines the themes to be covered in your essay
• The main body of the essay is structured into two/three sub-themes. This is where you draw
