Section 2: Skills demonstration

You are required to complete these tasks under the supervision of your work placement supervisor. Your supervisor must complete the provided assessment sheet, which must be returned to Chevron Training with your written work.

Candidates will be assessed in carrying out two skills demonstrations in the Cultural area. Candidates are required to demonstrate evidence of delivery of the materials in the appropriate way, in the areas of:

  • Nature: Botany and Zoology

Skill 1: Science

Describe a science experiment that you could carry out in the environment with a group of 4 to S year olds. Discuss what the children will learn from it and include a section on your planning, implementation, evaluation, and personal learning. Include visual evidence (in the form of photographs) of materials supported by the written presentation.

Skill 2: Nature: Botany and Zoology

Demonstrate how you would introduce one exercise (from the list below) to the child. “Parts of…” leaf/tree/fish/cow/bird puzzle “Parts of…”leaf/tree/fish/cow/bird folder

Discuss your chosen exercise in terms of the material sequence (what the child worked/will work with before/after). Also, discuss any variations or extensions of these materials that the child can use in the classroom. Include visual evidence (in the form of photographs) of materials supported by the written presentation.

Both exercises above must include visual evidence (in the form of photographs) of a child carrying out the activity. Submit photographs of the child carrying out the actual activity and include it on the page of your exercise. (Or you can attach the photographs on a separate sheet-photographs must display exercise in sequence) The photographs will need to illustrate the materials and portray the child using the appropriate material. (Ensure child’s face is not visible)

Parental consent is required to take photographs of a child. Written permission is necessary in order for photographs to be taken. A permission slip must be included in your work submitted for assessment.
