Part A) Social Science assignment – Write a 2000-word academic essay on a disability of your choice (to be agreed with lecturer) and the impact of living with this condition for the individual and family.
Your assignment should be structured as follows:
- Introduction – define disability and draw on both social and medical models acknowledging disability as an aspect of diversity.
- Outline your chosen disability/condition, its characteristics, causes and prevalence (one paragraph only).
- Discuss the impact of living with the disability for an individual and their family. Include holistic aspects (such as psychological, social, educational, occupational, participation, environmental). Make sure you link your discussion to the social and medical models of disability.
- Give an overview of supports that might empower an individual/family and enhance their autonomy.
