Demonstrate a critical awareness of their own potential and limitations in relation to clinical practice. Demonstrate the ability to meet the needs of the patient using clinical reasoning and where possible guide the formation of a diagnosis across all age ranges; modifying and adapting as necessary through practical and supervised exposure to a clinical setting.

Demonstrate knowledge of pathophysiology sufficient to understand the nature and effects of injury or illness whilst conducting assessment and observation. Discuss the impact of changing roles and extended practice on self and other practitioners. The assignments tab is now open for you. The requirement is submit two different cases that you have been involved in; these can medical, trauma, paeds, social care etc whichever you choose.

There are many reflective tools out there and please use a template of one of these tools for each case study that you submit.

The objective is to express your understanding of clinical practice through what you have learned so far in this module and also from your experiences, reading, research etc.

Case study Mental health Called to a 45 year old man who was in a mental health crisis – Was known to the services and had been visited by a crew earlier on in the day and refused treatment or to be conveyed to the hospital – His daughter rang the second time as she lived too far away to attend to her dad – Patient had barricaded himself in house – Was armed with a knife and was treating to kill himself – With no access into the house and no police presence I tried to talk to the patient to put the knife down and open the door lasting approx.

1 hour – The patient cut his neck with knife – Treated patient for injuries – Got patient to hospital to receive mental health assessment Reflect on the dangers the crew may have been in as patient was armed with a weapon How I couldn’t do any more to talk the patient down out of hurting himself What could have been done differently.
