Important Notes

When using workplace situations or information about another person as the basis of an assessment task it is essential that you obtain permission before completing the task and that you do not include any identifying information about the person/people involved.
When working with vulnerable people you must always maintain confidentiality, treat the person with respect and keep the safety and welfare of the person in mind.
For Task 3c you are required to submit a signed Supervisor Report Form. This can be found on your course page and must be submitted with this completed Workbook.

Task 1a
Select an individual who requires care, and describe their care needs using all the headings below (see section 1.2 of your course manual for further information) (150 words).
Esteem Needs |
Esteem needs for a 70-year-old individual are Self-actualisation, Independence, Respect, and Empathy.
A 70-year-old individual receiving care expresses concerns and anxieties about losing his independence. Significant fears are associated with becoming dependent on others for essential life needs and for engaging practically with the world, coupled with a fear of losing dignity that is often linked to such dependence. In terms of respect and empathy, he deserves to be appreciated and treated with dignity; He is entitled to information, consultation, consent, and the right to voice complaints. (Gott M,2008) |
Love and Belongingness needs |
The emotional need for group membership, affiliation, and social connections is known as belongingness. As a 70-year-old man who experiences isolation and loneliness, he needs friendship, trust, and acceptance to feel like he belongs. Love requires both the giving and the receiving of love.
His relationship issues and social isolation can result from weakness, disease, or a lack of independence. For many patients, the support of friends and family is essential. He finds joy, happiness, and pleasure in his family and friends.
|
Safety Needs |
When the physiological demands are mostly met, a new set of needs appears that we may broadly classify as the safety needs. Along with the earlier stage, these demands are still regarded as “basic needs”. This category encompasses things like monetary security (which includes the necessity for employment), as well as emotional security, health and wellbeing, physical safety, order, and control.
●
|
Physiological Needs |
These biological necessities—for instance, air, food, drink, shelter, clothes, warmth, sex, and sleep—are necessary for human life. For motivation theory, physiological needs are often assumed to be the first basis.

Task 1b: Care Needs Assessment Form
Complete the Needs Assessment form below for the individual from task 1a.
A care needs assessment can be used as well as a professional medical evaluation to inform care decisions. Use this tool to evaluate the person’s functional status, assess the level of daily assistance they need, make their home safer and more accessible, and create a care plan. Indicate any health concerns and medical diagnoses that require ongoing medical care or that impact the person’s daily functioning.
