Assignment 3 – Learning Outcome 2

Brief:

Ensuring your mentor facilitates you with work-based experience and guidance, you are required to demonstrate knowledge of how the fundamental elements of the house work together.

Part:

• Describe with a picture of the ‘Combined’ and ‘Separate’ systems of sewage/rainwater disposal within an urban area.
• Explain the one-pipe radiator heating circuit in an older property with Victorian Water/Sewer Services, and explain and illustrate with a picture the two-pipe radiator circuit in a house of Modern Construction. Illustrate to support your answer.
• Explain the ‘Direct’ system of COLD water distribution in an older property with old Victorian water/sewer services, and explain the ‘Indirect’ system of COLD water distribution in a house of Modern Construction. Provide illustrations/sections to support your answer.

Building Energy Report (BER):

Learners will be given 1 example of a BER report carried out on a property. They will also source a BER report – work-based or of their own home. They will be required to review each BER report and to compare and contrast the two BER reports for question 2.

1. Outline what a BER is, and how it is calculated.
2. Outline the BER reports provided and which you have chosen. List the implications for the vendors and prospective buyers of each property.
3. List the legal requirements regarding the BER carried out on the properties.
4. Outline briefly properties that may be exempt from the BER requirements.
