What is involved in the Artifact Project?
This is where students are assigned an archaeological artifact (see list below), which they record and research using approaches and conventions explained in class.
There are three stages to the project:
1. Record your artifact during a two-hour practical held in the final week of classes (assigned dates below). This requires written description, sketch drawing and print photographs (use the camera on your phone or bring a camera to class).

2. Background reading on your artifact type using published sources in Boole Library
3. Write the finished project. This should have four sections:
- A written description of an artifact, with measurements, sketch drawings, and photo
- Discuss the distribution of artifact type in Ireland, its date range, and cultural associations.
- A brief description of how it was made (technology)
- A brief discussion of how it was used
- List of references used in your study.
