Assignment Instructions

1. Case Selection

Choose a seminal employment law case in Ireland that is of interest to you or of relevance to your workplace. Kindly send me the title of your selected case for approval in advance on or before Friday 7 March.

(Examples – McKelvey v Iarnród Eireann/Irish Rail, [2019] SC (legal representation at internal
disciplinary proceedings) OR Marie Daly v Nano Nagle School [2019] SC (reasonable
accommodation in the workplace) OR Karabko v TikTok Technology Ltd [2024] WRC (remote
working).

2. Case Analysis

Case Background:

Provide a brief background of the case, outlining the parties involved, detailing its progression through the courts, and identifying the court that issued the final ruling.

Legal Principles:

Outline the legal issues involved and summarise the arguments presented by both parties.

Decision of the Court:

Detail the court’s decision and provide a summary of the final judgment. Describe how this decision establishes a precedent in employment law in Ireland.

Implications for Employees:

Analyse the important lessons from the case for both employees and employers moving forward.

3. Presentation

Prepare a 10-minute presentation summarising your analysis – to be presented to the group on Monday 24 March. Use visual aids such as slides to enhance your presentation. Be prepared to answer questions from your lecturer.

A soft copy of slides should be uploaded to the Moodle page on or before Friday 21 March.

4. Assessment Criteria
