Jack is a first-year student in secondary school before leaving primary school Jack was diagnosed with dyslexia and dyspraxia. He also presents with general characteristics of ADHD. Jack is finding the transition from primary school to secondary school difficult and teachers have found him to be quite disruptive in class. He tends to be overactive and has difficulty concentrating. He is fidgety and restless, easily distracted, and continually talks out of turn. On a routine visit to Jack’s home, the Home School Liaison officer met with Jack’s mother. She discovered that, up until recently, Jack lived alone with his mother. However, a short time ago, his mother’s long-term partner moved into the house, along with his seven-year-old son. Jack is having difficulty adjusting to this new arrangement and this is reflected in his increasing disruption both at home and at school. The school has just received confirmation of the allocation and an extra staff member to assist Jack. The school has also received additional funding to help with Jack’s specific learning difficulties.
