Impact of Policy and Legislation

The learner is required to conduct a Project which will demonstrate their understanding of the theory and application of social policy and legislation in the childcare sector. In devising the Project, the following key guidelines should be considered:

Guideline 1:

Select any two of the topics listed. For each topic, discuss the impact of one legislation on this topic. Ensure to discuss how the different legislations impact the health and well-being of children within the context of the topic selected:

Guideline 2:

(i) Devise two new policies or revise an existing policy for a childcare service that will be central to the efficient running of the service and will ensure compliance with relevant social policy and legislation.
(ii) Discuss why services need policies and procedures to safeguard children in early childhood care and education setting.

Guideline 3:

Discuss how statutory regulations and national practice guidelines influence the day-to-day work of the early childhood care and education worker. Include examples in your response. Discussion should be original – do not copy and paste excerpts from examples into your response.

Guideline 4:

Identify, and explain in your own words, the key points of legislation that protects and guides staff in the work setting. Your response should consider employment legislation as well as childcare-specific legislation which protects and guides the worker in their day-to-day work.
