5N3734 Assignment: Infection Prevention & Control

Overview:

As part of this assessment, learners are required write four individual reports on how they
would undertake the following skills tasks:

• Hand Hygiene Technique.
• Correct management of body fluid spillages.
• Correct handling & disposal of linen.
• Correct handling & disposal of sharps and healthcare waste.

In each of the written report’s learners are required to illustrate good practice Learners will
also need to illustrate their understanding and knowledge of their role in promoting safe
practices.

Word Count: 800 words for each Skill Report (+/-10%)

Please note: if you do go over your word count deduction will be at tutor discretion, based
on the relevance of the information submitted.

Evidence of the above will be provided by:
1. A detailed written report on each skill, following the required headings given below.

Each individual report must illustrate good practice and present a detailed account of
steps undertaken in performance of each skill

2. Supervised Activity: Observation Record on Skills {below}

3. Hand Hygiene Video: {details on how to submit below}

Important

• For each of the reports please write in the first person.

• Where requested support your report with a video recording which is submitted
separately. You can find guidelines and videos on how to do this at the end of the
document.

• Where advised you can support your report with appropriate images sourced from
internet.

• Support each report with research evidence, highlighting best practice guidelines.
Construct each Report under the following headings:

• Preparation: how you would prepare to complete the task.

• Materials: list the materials, resources, equipment that would be used to effectively
carry out the task.

• Procedure and Rationale: this section of the report should illustrate a detailed
account, step by step guide, of how the procedure would be carried out, illustrating
knowledge, rationale and best practice, supported with references.

• Reflection on Practice: reflect on knowledge gained, and how it will benefit you in
practice.

Skills Demonstration Report Guidelines:

You are required to write 4 skills reports on the following skills tasks; each skills report carries 10%.

Report No.1: Hand Hygiene

a) Social Technique.
b) Alcohol Technique.

Alongside your written account of this skill (as per headings above) this report must be
supported with a video of your hand hygiene technique (choose either A or B) and recorded
and uploaded as per Instructions

Report No.2: Cleaning of Body Fluid Spills

a) Urine Spills.
b) Blood Spills.

Alongside your written account of this skill (as per headings above) this report must be
supported with appropriate images sourced from the web and referenced accordingly.

Report No.3: Linen Management

a) Handling and Disposal of Non-Soiled Linen.
b) Handling and Disposal of Soiled Linen.

Alongside your written account of this skill (as per headings above) this report must be
supported with appropriate images sourced from the web and referenced accordingly.

Report No.4: Healthcare Waste and Sharp Management

a) Correct Disposal of Sharps.
b) Handling and Disposal of Healthcare RISK Waste.

In this assessment you must demonstrate your ability to research the topics independently
and ensure they are based on best practice. Please ensure to use relevant research and
sources of information and provide a bibliography as per Harvard Style.
