Read the criminal case attached. Based on the case study, you need to incorporate the following information to help you write the assignment.

1. Briefly outline what legislation is connected to the case study [LO2]

2. What theory/s of criminology may explain what led the accused to commit murder e.g. rational choice, social theories, biological/psychological- explain your reasoning. [LO1] and [LO6]

3.Research crime statistics and indicate the crime rate for violent crimes in Ireland 2020. Is this higher or lower than the previous two years? [LO8]

4. Briefly describe the role of the judge. Explain in general what judges consider before sentencing the accused.

5. Explain what a Victim Impact Statement is and when it is usually given.

6. Explain about the probation service and how they are involved in cases.

7. List the support services available to the victims of crime in Ireland?

8. Reflecting on the case study details can you offer your opinion of the criminal justice system. [LO4]
