Discuss the links between colonialism, trade, slavery, racism, and aid and explore possible reasons why groups such as emigrants migrants and immigrants may experience prejudice and discrimination from members of a dominant culture. Check out the slides on google classroom on this topic. Look at how people from different cultures came to live in one country. Why do you think some of them experienced racism and discrimination?

What is culture? How is a culture formed and what keeps it together? Give examples of at least 2 different cultures, and how they celebrate some of life’s milestones.

Topic 3

Demonstrate a critical understanding of intercultural issues by developing a respect for self, others, and diversity and exploring a variety of ways of dealing with issues arising from cultural differences. Explore attitudes that contribute to prejudice/racist behavior by identifying and exploring incidences and reasons for some current intercultural conflicts. In this section, state what you are trying to find out for your research project. EG “Marriages in the Traveling community are much more extravagant than in the Irish settled community” What are some of the issues here? What attitudes does society have towards travelers in this instance? Why might they incur conflict?

Your research may be around births in 2 different cultures so you will need to discuss some of the issues there and what attitudes society has towards the cultures that you are researching.
