Research Proposal Assessment
Overview
The main element of the module involves the development of a Research Proposal.
Activity relating to the research proposal will occur from Week 4 to 12. You must engage
with the lectures, tutorials, and assigned readings and tasks in order to successfully complete
this element.
• Section 1: Introduction to research topic, research question & ethical
considerations: What is my research topic? What is my research question? Why is this worth
researching? What are the ethical considerations?
• Section 2: Literature Review: What does the literature tell us about the topic and
research question?
• Section 3: Research Methods: Describe in detail the methods that you propose
using to collect and analyse data.
• Section 4: Implications for Practice: How could this research help to improve the
experiences of pupils and teachers in second-level schools?
Word Count: Approximately 4000 words (no more than 4500 words). TURNITIN will
be used to authenticate assignment.
Section 1: Introduction (10 marks) 500 words
What is my research topic? What is my research question? Why is this worth
researching? What are the ethical considerations?
Pay particular attention to your choice of language: refine your expression until it is
clear and concise and displays a grounded, reasoned understanding of the topic and
its relevance to practice. You want to ensure that your reader is sufficiently engaged
to want to read the whole article.
Section 4: Implications for Practice/Conclusion (20 marks) 1000 words
• How could this research help to improve the experiences of pupils and teachers
in second-level schools?
• This section should bring together all the scholarly elements that you have
already developed in your work; the literature, your proposed methodology, and
implications for the discipline.
• Go back and critically reflect on your introductory section and your stated
aims of the research. (150 words)
• You should outline the implications of your research and discuss the possible
consequences, both theoretical and practical. (500 words)
• Study limitations should be noted (150 words).
• Suggestions for future research should be outlined (150 words

Ensure that this is formatted correctly and include details of all research cited in
your proposal
