You have recently been appointed as Health and Safety Officer to a large multinational construction company, which is working on a large-scale construction project.

KYL Development Ltd is a large multinational construction company, founded over 100 years ago. The development company presently has over 5000 full-time employees globally, with 1000 staff working on projects in Ireland. The site is located in a busy urban environment.
Project Details
This project will take place over a 52-week project duration and includes:
- The demolition of a derelict building and all associated site works to be carried out in a busy urban environment.
- The construction will consist of:
- A two-storey extension to the existing production building.
- A single-storey extension to the existing electrical substation.
- External plant, pipe-rack, pumps, and associated equipment.

Site Ancillary Works
- The foundation design will accommodate an accelerated build method consisting of prefabricated steel reinforcement into a rationalised pad foundation system.
- The main building structure will consist of a steel and portal frame building with insulated cladding.
- Local authority licences will be required, incorporating traffic/pedestrian management plans.
- Diversions of underground services and all associated ground works consisting of site clearance, a reduced level dig, radon and under-building drainage, foundations, connection of mains water, gas, and electric connection, provision of an attenuation tank, and soft landscaping.
Mechanical and Electrical Installation
- Solar panels.
- HVAC systems with the large mechanical plant housed in an enclosed rooftop plant room.
- Internal areas within the existing production building will be reconfigured in line with Building and Fire Regulations to allow for a link corridor to the newly constructed units.
- Major tie-ins for services will be required for the Electrical and Mechanical systems.
Potential Hazards
Works have the potential for:
- Dust, noise, vibration, aspergillus, working at height, plant and equipment, traffic/pedestrian management, Electrical Lock and Tag Out, scaffolding (note: this is a non-exhaustive list).
Additional Information
- The existing production building will be fully operational.
- Traffic marshals will be required to control vehicle access along the main access/egress route, with full communication with the production building to ensure emergency response routes are not interrupted.
- Additional access to the North of the site can be established for deliveries.
