The writing up of an essay based on anatomy and pathophysiological mechanism of injuries provides practice and an opportunity to develop skills for second year. Academic writing and the understanding of common injuries and how they develop is an essential base for a sports therapy degree

TITLE: Keep the title short, no more than twelve words. The title should always capture the aim of the essay

INTRODUCTION 20%

The purpose of the induction is to introduce the reader to the topic, explain the anatomical structures involved, epidemiology and the phase of healing of the injury you have chosen, while introducing any key terms.

Discussion 40%

Explain the mechanism of injury referring to the phase of healing associated with the injury you have chosen. Explain why it is common in certain sports/genders/age or race. (epidemiology and aetiology) With essay writing it is important that the writer leads the reader through the discussion in logical order. Key terms should have been explained and developed with the use of references where necessary.

Conclusion 20%

The main objective of any conclusion Is to relay the main points from the discussion. It is common practice to end a conclusion section with a mention of future studies on the topic.

References 10%

Full references must be giving for any factual information, statements or quotes. Reference style to be used is Harvard format. You are expected to provide a minimum of 6 relevant references from scientific literature.

Writing Style 10%

Spelling, grammar, punctuation, appropriate paragraphs, structure and flow. Use of correct referencing in text (web references should NOT be used unless governing body statistics). Essay should be double spaced with appropriate layout meeting the word count of 1500 word +/- 10%. Module code, student name and number and word count should be on the cover sheet.
