1.1 Chapter Introduction
This chapter is the beginning of the research’s thorough examination of the body of literature to present the complex environment that surrounds the promotion of sustainable energy. In light of\ the pressing need for the world to move towards a more environmentally friendly future, this chapter explores the various viewpoints, approaches and conclusions that have influenced the conversation. The chapter examines the possibilities and ramifications of adopting sustainable energy, thereby combining knowledge from research on economic and technological as well as environmental and policy framework aspects. The research seeks to contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the possibilities and challenges inherent in the quest for a green and environmentally aware energy landscape by synthesizing this abundance of knowledge from scholarly research.

1.2 Evaluating various renewable energy sources (such as solar, wind, hydro, etc., ) that affect the transition to a greener future

The study conducted by Tian et al. (2022) focuses on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global energy transition. The paper raised fears that an economic rebound may overshadow the advancement of the energy transition. To emphasise the importance of taking an ecologically responsible approach, it asks for a “green” rehabilitation strategy. The study offers a thorough analysis, thereby pointing out potential problems in the energy transition during the pandemic and suggesting a roadmap for a post-pandemic low-carbon energy transition. The study clarifies how
environmental sustainability, economic recovery and the possibility of a green recovery interact. On the other hand, the growing significance of hydrogen, particularly in attaining carbon neutrality in hard-to-decarbonise industries, is examined by Kakoulaki et al. (2021).

The study assesses the technological feasibility of using renewable energy sources to produce hydrogen, with a focus on the transition from carbon-intensive processes to water electrolysis. The study sheds light on the possibility of using sustainable energy-based electrolysis of water to replace environmentally damaging hydrogen manufacturing. Through a regional analysis, the study indicates that a shift to Page 4 of 51 decarbonized hydrogen generation is viable, therefore supporting the current EU shift to carbon-free power systems.
