Your unit has 6 team members, who have been staff in the unit for a range of 3 weeks to 20 years. You have only recently become a manager in the staff team after working in another part of the organization for 5 years. The unit provides care for 4 people who have a range of needs.
The service has to implement changes to ensure that planning for the service users is more person-centered, with a distinct increase in service users’ natural support networks and community involvement.
The staff team seems very resistant to the idea, as even before this change they felt overworked and under-resourced. The team has a culture heavily determined by the two longest-serving staff members who organize social events for the staff. The team tends to be influenced by the two older members of staff and they set the consensus.
