Section One

1. Provide a description of the elements of an effective school aged child care programme to include (training, policies and procedures, effective curriculum with play at its core, programme planning and consultation, working with families, schools and wider community)

2. Discuss the challenges of working in a school age environment (diverse age ranges, limited time, parental expectations, no regulations, additional responsibilities i.e. school pickups, homework etc.)

Section Two

1. Discuss how homework/enrichment can be provided within the school age childcare setting. Also include. What you need to consider when planning for homework time and the main elements that should be included in a homework policy.

Section Three

1. Define school age childcare using a referenced definition.

2. Provide one sample of a daily plan and one weekly plan to include both indoor and outdoor activities. The plans should have (days, times, activities, breaks and person responsible for each, in a simple table format). In the daily plan you must show relevance of the activities to the developmental domains (PILES) of the child and relate to the themes and learning outcomes set out in Aistear. Daily and Weekly plan are not included in the word count.

3. Describe the purpose of evaluation in the planning process and how to involve the whole team in evaluation (children, staff, parents and wider community).
