You have studied and explained why it came about and its relevance to the field of community development in NI? You can choose to explore either the Rural Needs Act or the Section 75 Legislation (which we studied in-depth) or another piece of public policy /legislation that you are familiar with and explore why it matters to the work you do. The essay should explore what the legislation is, where it came from and how it was arrived at, what it intended to address and why that is important to the communities in which you live and work. Structure of the essay: State what the legislation/public policy you intend to study is – chose one area Give a bit of background to the legislation – why it came about and who pushed for it to put it in place.

Explore the context of the push to have it enshrined in law – why was it needed what was it intended to address -highlight why it came about, and what it intended to do for NI society by way of equality, equity, and inclusion. Then explore what it means for you and the work you do. Critique it – what has been good and bad about having this in place in NI How does it help ( or not help – you choose)to bring about equality or equity in the work you do – So you could explore how it is difficult for your group to balance its appeal to people, to be more inclusive of those say with disabilities, ethnicity, cultural differences, etc and why that should matter.
