Purpose of Assignment:

This assignment invites students to demonstrate their ability to apply the theory of IRs in a practical environment. Students will write an essay on three compelling economic factors that have/might affect(ed) The management of IRs from the Employer’s and Trade Unions’ perspectives. This is an individual assignment and will be judged under the following areas in accordance with the grading criteria set out in the next section:

• The overall structure of your assignment needs to be clear, well-presented, and clearly demonstrate an understanding of the key principles covered within the IRs literature and how they relate to practice.
• How you address the task/question (which should show your understanding and critical reflection, of the task and then your understanding of the topic, concepts, and related debates).
• Use practical examples to back up the points you make.

Assignment Submission Guidelines

• Please submit assignments through the Turnitin link on Moodle.
• Include a signed assignment submission form at the front of the assignment you submit.This states that the essay is your work and is appropriately referenced.
• Make sure that the assignment submission form includes your full name and student number as well as the module code, submission date, word count, and essay topic.
•  Use Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri fonts, 12 points in size, in black. Do not use bold, italics, or CAPS for emphasis but bold may be used for headings.
• Use standard 1-inch (2.54cm) margins for the top, bottom left, and right. Line  Spacing: Use
• 1.5-inch spacing. Page Numbers: Place page numbers in the bottom center position.
• Proofread all of your assignments thoroughly before submission to eliminate basic errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Also, run a ‘spell-check’ on your computer, using a consistent language setting such as “English (Ireland)”.
• NCI recommends that students use the Harvard referencing system (see
  http://libguides.ncirl.ie/referencing/harvard). Your assignment should include a list of references, not a complete bibliography. This means that the list should include only 2 sources that have actually been cited in the essay, rather than all sources you have consulted.
• This individual assignment should be 2300 words or 12 pages, maximum, in length. The assignment submission form or cover page and the reference list are excluded from the word count. A word count lower limit of minus (-) 10% and an upper limit of plus (+) 10% applies to the assignments.

Background: As an expert, you have always been keen to develop a new IRs approach that balances equity, voice, and efficiency within an organization to enhance fairness and justice.

Your task is to:

a) research and justify three key economic changes/trends (globalization, covid-19, and the gig economy) and how they have/might impact(ed) the management of labour and industrial relations by employers and trades unions in Ireland.
