David, the recently appointed Director of the International Gallery of Art in Longford, has sought permission from the Gallery Board to purchase a Picasso painting to exhibit in the permanent collection. The gallery has benefitted from a legacy of a very successful Irish writer who died in 1951 and those to bequeath the royalties from his estate to the gallery in his last will. David has also informed the Board that through networking he has developed international contacts which should benefit the gallery in its purchasing program for the next ten years.
(a) Discuss what is meant by Intellectual Property
(b) Explain the intellectual property right of ‘copyright’ to David.
(c) Outline to David any problems that might arise regarding his purchasing plans.
