Objectives

• That students demonstrate a good understanding of current Occupational Health & Safety legislation relating to Risk Assessment.
• That they understand the principles of Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control measures.
• That students demonstrate an understanding of practical challenges and barriers faced by organizations and demonstrate how these factors must be accounted for when making risk control choices.
• That they can appropriately apply these Risk Assessment principles to a workplace known to them in the context of relevant legislation, that they can account for the challenges/barriers and that they can produce a written report to communicate their findings to others in a clear, professional, structured, and technically correct manner.
• As part of the Diploma in OHS, students are required to complete two projects to be submitted within specified timeframes before the end of the course.

Risk Assessment

Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work, Act 2005, all workplaces are required to be in possession of a written assessment of the potential risks to the safety, health, and welfare at work of employees and others.

A hazard identification and risk assessment process must be carried out for employees, including those who may be exposed to any unusual or other risks that may be present in your chosen workplace.

This risk assessment project requires students to undertake a task-specific risk assessment for one hazard within each of the six defined hazard categories.

This project is designed to bring together the knowledge and skills that students have gained on this program to date and will draw on continued learning, insights, and discussions throughout future modules.

Depending on the size and scale of the company that you work for, you may complete the risk assessment exercise within a specific area in the company where there is a wide range of hazards or you may decide to complete the risk assessments on a smaller organization.
