The introduction set out the purpose of the assignment. You should identify the potential Airway, Breathing, and Circulation problems that can occur in the early postoperative period first 24 hours and state the overall aim of nursing care in relation to Airway, Breathing, and Circulation.

You may wish to state that the information used for the development of this assignment was derived from the Irish National Early Warning System, Version 2 Department of Health 2020, along with any other readings references from lecture reading lists, nursing textbooks.

• Identify the potential problems that can occur in the early postoperative period as they relate to Airway, Breathing, and Circulation.
• Briefly state what is the overall aim/goal purpose of nursing care as they relate to Airway. Breathing and Circulation.
• Include information on patient assessment in relation to Airway, Breathing, and Circulation risks/ potential problems in the early postoperative period.
• Refer to the Irish National Early Warning System Version 2, for observations in adults with examples of changes that indicate patient deterioration: i.e. signs/ symptoms as they relate to potential complications.
• Describe the nursing role in inpatient care for Airway, Breathing, and Circulation during the first 24 hours after the patient has returned to the general surgical ward. The patient is conscious and alert.
• You need to demonstrate that you understand the ‘what, how, and why’ for nursing care. Explain What to do How to do it… Why give rationale and support with reference/s.
• You need to support the role of the nurse with a rationale for engaging in the care offered and provide evidence from research. It is not sufficient to merely state these.
