A 65-year-old lady presents to the emergency department complaining of acute onset of breathlessness. The breathlessness began two days ago and has become progressively worse.
She is consistently breathless, even at rest and she is unable to complete a full sentence. She is extremely fatigued and has edema in both ankles. There are no associated, aggravating, or relieving factors of note.
She is married with two grown children. She denies fever, chills, chest pain or discomfort, chest palpitations, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
