Subject | Mechanical Engineering |
To design a tractor ditch cutter with the capability to hinge by a universal joint in the center of the cutting bar allowing the full ditch to be cut. One part of the cutting bar would cut the base of the ditch parallel to the road and the other could cut the face of the ditch perpendicular to the road. The range would be 90 degrees.
The ditch cutter would be able to operate normally at these angles. The cutter’s angle will be adjusted by hydraulic pumps powered by the tractor. This process will allow the countryside hedges to be cut in a faster and more efficient process thus cutting down time spent on the road and improving safety.
Objectives
The research will be carried out to investigate the current designs in production and on the market. The investigation will also go into the operating process of these cutters, how they are powered, and determine which way would be able to operate as a foundation.
Following these hydraulics and universal joints will be studied as these will be the most instrumental points of this project. Once this research has been carried out on available literature in these areas, an initial concept design will be made up to visualize the project.
