MGMT09009: Using London 2012 Olympics As A Case Study: Contracts and Procurement Assignment, MU, Ireland

Choose ONE of the following, or alternatively carry out a case study on a large project that you choose;

1. Using London 2012 Olympics as a case study, carry out a detailed study to investigate how the construction procurement of this megaproject was able to put into practice the key drivers for change identified by Sir John Egan in his reports to achieve improved construction performance.

2. Using the Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh as a case study, carry out a detailed study to investigate how the procurement of this project was undertaken. Critically assess the extent to which the appointments of the Architect and Construction Manager and the procurement of the new Scottish Parliament building at Holyrood complied with the EC public procurement legislation.

3. Critically assess and evaluate how the Public Sectors’ inexperience in handling the procurement process of large-scale construction projects was one of the contributing factors that have led to significant delays and cost overruns on Berlin’s long-delayed Brandenburg Airport (BER).

4. In relation to the National Children’s Hospital Project, critically examine the issues that have manifested themselves throughout the procurement process of the project, specifically how the project risks were managed throughout the process, and how they may have been dealt with more effectively.
