• You are the assistant to the Network Administrator of a busy product services company.

• You are required to build a fully operational Server that will be run as a network Domain Controller

• You will be required to set up user accounts for two different departments within the company and these accounts must be placed into groups and Organizational Units.

• You will create network resources (a shared folder) for each of the two departments and you will assign access to these resources based on group membership.

• You will also set up a Group Policy to automatically install software onto the client computer at log-on.

Additionally, you will put all of the work into a professionally formatted report format.

Specific Requirements: Provide screen capture evidence of completing each of the following steps

Put all the work that you do into a professionally formatted report that can be submitted as evidence that you completed all steps outlined below. Be sure to include any troubleshooting that was needed as you did the project. Also, include any references that were used to help you complete the assignment.

1. Using virtualization software, install 2 servers using Server 2012 Datacentre (full version, not the Core). (Keep things simple and use pass1234! as the password for both Administrator accounts). Rename the 2 servers and call them Server1 and Client1. Rename Server1 using the Windows GUI and rename Client 1 using a PowerShell command.

2. Assign Server1 the static IP addressing using the following configuration. 172.16.0.100/24 and assign Client1 the IP address 172.16.0.200/24. For the preferred DNS server entry use the 172.16.0.100 IP address for both computers. Make sure that the two servers can ping each other by IP address and by name.

For example: from Client1: C:\> Ping Server1. You will
need to help the two servers PING. Either open the firewall for ICMP or configure Network Discovery of public networks for both VMs (this will help the two servers to be able to PING each other).

3. Convert your Server1 into a Domain Controller. Give your new domain the name Domain. cct where xx are the last two digits of your student number.

Note that the DNS service is installed during the DC installation procedure (in other words your server will act as its own DNS server and the DNS service will get installed at the same time that Active Directory is installed). Both computers must use the Server1 IP address as the DNS server.

4. Have Client1 join the Domain. cct domain and then reboot Client1. Troubleshoot DNS if Client1 can not join the Domain. Report on any troubleshooting that you do during this project.

5. In Server 1 use Active Directory Users and Computers to create the 10 user accounts as specified on the next page. Next, use Active Directory Users and Computers create 2 groups (Sales and Accounting) as specified on the next page (keep things simple and use pass1234! as the password for all accounts). Add each of the 10 users to their respective groups (Sales or Accounting) as specified on the next page.

6. Create two folders as specified on the next page. Share each folder as specified on the next page. Apply share permissions and NTFS as specified on the next page (do this while you are sharing the folders).

7. Test that the permissions are working by logging into Client1 as one of the Sales users (that you created in step 5 above) then demonstrate that you can access the Sales-Docs folder but are denied access to the Accounting-Docs folder. Do the same with one of the Accounting department users.

8. Download the Notepad++ program. Be sure that there an MSI file available with the download. Use GPEDIT to edit the default domain policy so that Notepad++ is automatically installed for each user who logs onto Client1 using an account from either the Sales or Accounting department.
