You are required to:

1. Identify a research topic that is relevant to nursing/midwifery practice or health problems.

2. The assignment should begin with an introduction and provide a context to the topic. The context reflects the importance of the topic to nursing/midwifery practice and the existence of national/international policies.

3. Conduct a search of the electronic literature databases.  Outline the search strategy you used (in a flow chart or table format) to locate research literature relevant to your chosen research topic.  This should include:

a) Databases used.

b) Key search terms used.

4. Limits may include:

a) MeSH headings, keyword, or Title/abstract/keyword.

b) Dates of publication

c) Type of article

d) Language

e) Population (if relevant)

f) Any other limits used.

5. Construct a data extraction table that includes the studies identified from the search.  The headings on the table should incorporate the main aspects of the study e.g. authors name, year of publication, study aim, sample, setting, study design, instrument, data analysis, main findings, comments.

6. Summarise the literature reviewed so that the reader can grasp its main characteristics and the area/s that might potentially benefit from further research
